Avalanche warning for region Salten Monday 08.06.2020

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Naturally released avalanches are possible in the alpine due to large amount of new snow and strong winds. Below the new snow line, the rain will weaken the snowpack and large wet slab and glide avalanches are possible.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Glide avalanches

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 7. June 2020

Opp til rundt 1100 moh er det våt/fuktig grovkornet snø. I lavlandet under 300-500 moh er det lite snø igjen i terrenget. Generelt er det i høyden mye snø for årstiden. Mest snø finnes i østvendte fjellsider.

I høyden i indre deler av regionen har det vært observasjoner tidligere på vedvarende svakt lag av kantkorn som ble dannet i vinter. Hvor potent dette er nå, er usikkert.

Mountain weather

Sunday 7. June 2020

6-10 mm precipitation. Breeze from southeast, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. 1 °C to 8 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 8. June 2020

4-6 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast. -2 °C to 4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Unngå områder under glidesprekker.
