Avalanche warning for region Salten Monday 21.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wet avalanches can be triggered where the snow surface is wet and loose. In the northern parts of the region, newly formed wind slabs can be triggered.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 20. March 2022

Lørdag er det kraftig mildvær og store mengder nedbør som regn høyt til fjells.

Over 1200-1400 moh kommer nedbøren som snø.

Gamle vedvarende svake lag forventes å har enten blitt nøytralisert av regnvær eller låst under tykke lag med smelteomvandlet snø. Men denne teorien er ikke bekreftet av observasjoner.

Mountain weather

Sunday 20. March 2022

No precipitation. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Monday 21. March 2022

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l. Fresh breeze from southwest. -5 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
