Avalanche warning for region Salten Tuesday 02.05.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

If the sun comes out, direct sunlight will weakens the fresh snow. Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Keep a safe distance to cornices.

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Monday 1. May 2023

På fjellet er det fuktig fokksnø opp til rundt 1000 moh. Over denne høyden er snøen tørr. Det er observert begynnende oppbyggende omvandling under fokksnøen, men trolig er utbredelsen foreløpig flekkvis. I lavlandet begynner det å minke på snøen, særlig ut mot kysten. Den gamle snøpakka er smelteomvandlet opp til rundt 1000 moh.

3 mm precipitation, up to 8 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to breeze from the southeast during the evening. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Tuesday 2. May 2023

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l during renoon. Breeze from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the north during the afternoon. -14 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Endret vindretning og vindøkning om ettermiddagen vil gi transport av snø inn i nye leområder. Vær forsiktig der det er fersk fokksnø. Problemet er størst i de områdene som har fått mest nysnø den siste tiden. I andre deler av regionen vil skredproblemet oppleves som mindre aktuelt eller fraværende.

Dersom sola bryter igjennom skydekket kan det i bratt og soleksponert terreng løsne enkelte våte skred. Skredfaren er størst i lune formasjoner som får direkte solinnstråling.
