Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Wednesday 02.05.2018

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Predominantly stable conditions, but be aware in steep lee areas in higher elevations, small dry wind slabs are possible to release. Be careful close to and in terrain traps. If/when the sun comes out, the danger will rise to 2-moderate also in areas where the snow becomes wet and soft.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 1. May 2018

Mountain weather

Tuesday 1. May 2018

Little to no precipitation. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the southeast during the evening. -4 °C to 4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Wednesday 2. May 2018

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from southeast. -4 °C to 3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
