Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Saturday 19.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
At higher altitudes avoid areas with wind-deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Keep distance to areas with gliding cracks.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 18. March 2022

Det gjekk onsdag eit vått laussnøskred over Fv5912 under skredbana Seljesvore.

Mountain weather

Friday 18. March 2022

8-12 mm precipitation. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from west, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the evening. -7 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 19. March 2022

No precipitation. Moderate gale from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -5 °C to 4 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Unngå områder under glidesprekkar.
