Avalanche warning for region Svartisen Saturday 01.04.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
New persistent weak layer near the surface. Avalanches can be very easily triggered.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can very easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 31. March 2023

Mountain weather

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to strong breeze from the northeast during the evening. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 1. April 2023

4 mm precipitation, up to 9 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 100 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from north, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during renoon. -13 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
