Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Monday 13.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Loose snow available for snow transport in combination with new snow and strong winds makes it likely that medium sized avalanches will release naturally.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 12. February 2023

Mountain weather

Sunday 12. February 2023

25 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from south, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during renoon. -4 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 13. February 2023

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l during renoon. Moderate gale from west, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during renoon. -4 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
