Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Torsdag første kraftig vind og mye vindtransport på fjellet til at det ble dannet harde flak med fokksnø. Vindutsatte områder ble avblåst. Etter det har det snødd og det er nå mye løssnø tilgjengelig for vindtransport. Det gamle snødekket mot bakken består for det meste av hard og kompakt smelteomvandlet snø.

I Gratangen er det observert et vedvarende svakt lag av kantkorn under skare. Laget er antagelig vanskelig å påvirke og anses foreløpig ikke som et problem.

Torsdag kveld sperret et skred fylkesvei 7864 i Kvænbukta.

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from southwest. -16 °C to -7 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Saturday 11. March 2023

12 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -14 °C to -6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mye løssnø i terrenget kombinert med påfyll av nysnø og kraftig vind vil føre til stor snøtransport inn i leområder. Skred kan løsne av seg selv og muligens nå vei på de mest utsatte stedene.
