Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Sunday 30.04.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
In the alpine, avoid steep slopes with fresh wind slabs until it is stabilized. If the sun comes out, direct sunlight will weakens the fresh snow. Keep a safe distance to cornices.
  • The danger is greatest until Sunday afternoon

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 29. April 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 29. April 2023

8 mm precipitation, up to 18 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l Saturday night. Breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the northeast during the afternoon. -3 °C to 1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 30. April 2023

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from south, changing to fresh breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -4 °C to 2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
