Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Sunday 07.05.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The avalanche danger increases in the evening as the rain will weaken the snowpack. Naturally released avalanches are expected on all aspects. In the high alpine, recently formed wind slabs could easily be triggered.
  • The danger is greatest from Sunday evening

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 6. May 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 6. May 2023

No precipitation. Calm/light breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -7 °C to 3 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 7. May 2023

7 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -2 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
