Avalanche warning for region Sør-Trøndelag Monday 11.04.2022

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Published:
Challenging conditions due to heavy snowfall with wind and a persistent weak layer. Natural avalanches are likely. Avoid avalanche terrain. Use forecast with care as we have few observations from the region.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow above a crust

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Mountain weather

Sunday 10. April 2022

15 mm precipitation, up to 55 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 500 m a.s.l. Moderate gale from northwest. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 11. April 2022

20 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l. Fresh breeze from northwest. -5 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Store skred kan løsne av seg selv. Skred i den ferske fokksnøen vil kunne påvirke vedvarende svake lag og føre til større skred. All ferdsel i skredfarlig terreng bør unngås, utvis stor forsiktighet i kjente utløpsområder for skred.
