Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Tuesday 02.04.2019

Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of faceted snow beneath a crust

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Det ligg fokksnøflak av ulik hardheit i leområder etter snøværet i helga. Det ligg laus snø tilgjengeleg for vind i skjerma formasjonar over skoggrensa. Den eldre snøen er i hovudsak varmepåvirka og stabilisert.

Svake kantkornlag er truleg tilstades i høgda over 1200- 1300moh.

Avalanche risk assessment

Hard vind frå ny retning gir ferske fokksnøflak i leområder mot V- NV og N. Nysnøen er varmepåvirka og kram opp til omlag skoggrensa, så snøen blir flytta meir til høgare ein kjem. I høgda kan det være enkelte områder med svake kantkornlag som kan forsterke fokksnøproblemet og gi større skred. Det er forhold for glideskred ved sigesprekker. I solvendte bratte heng kan det gå små våte laussnøskred.
