Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Wednesday 09.12.2020

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Generally stable conditions, but be careful in steep terrain, especially where wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here. Keep in mind that even small avalanches can have consequences if you fall into rocky terrain.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 8. December 2020

Mountain weather

Tuesday 8. December 2020

Little to no precipitation. Moderate gale from south, changing to fresh breeze from the south during renoon. -6 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 9. December 2020

Little to no precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the south during the afternoon. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredproblemet finnes høyt til fjells i skjermede formasjoner. Det vil generelt kreves stor tilleggsbelastning for å løse ut skred. Vær oppmerksom på at selv små skred på isete overflate eller tynt snødekke kan medføre alvorlige konsekvenser på grunn av oppstikkende stein.
