Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Friday 14.01.2022

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Published:
Dangerous avalanche conditions due to large amounts of new snow and strong winds. Natural avalanches are likely. Avoid avalanche terrain.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Mildvær og regn onsdag og torsdag ga en snøoverflate med smelteomvandlet snø. Generelt er det lite snø for årstida.

Torsdag gikk det et stort skred ved Sunndalsøra. Det er også observert noen opp middels til store skred i Sunndalen.

Det er observert mange store skavler i regionen.

80 mm precipitation, up to 115 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1400 m a.s.l Thursday night. Gale from southwest, changing to storm from the west during the evening. -6 °C to 2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 14. January 2022

25 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Storm from west, changing to gale from the northwest during renoon. -9 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Fare for naturlig utløste store skred.

Mye nysnø og kraftig vind gir ferske fokksnøflak i leheng mot øst og sørøst, disse kan gi naturlig utløste tørre flakskred.

De ekstreme nedbørsmengdene som regn og de høye temperaturene onsdag og torsdag ga økt snøsmelting. Det kan ta tid før vann trenger ned til svake lag eller bunnen av snødekket i høyda. Denne forsinkelsesprosessen gjør at naturlig utløste våte flakskred kan gå også etter at lufttemperaturen har blitt under null grader.
