Avalanche warning for region Trollheimen Thursday 27.04.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Ny snø har i høyden lagt seg over et generelt smelteomvandlet snødekke. Før siste ukens snøvær fantes tørr snø bare i nordsider på de høyeste toppene.

I høyden finnes stedvis kantkorn dypt i snødekket under hard og bærende fokksnø. Dette gjelder mest sannsynligvis kun i høyden mot nord.
Det ble også observert overflatekantkorn i skyggesider høyt til fjells før værskiftet på søndag.

Avalanche risk assessment

Bygevær fra nordvest kan lokalt gi mye nysnø. Ferske flak kan være lette å løse ut. Flakene vil sannsynligvis stabilisere seg raskt men enkelte steder, særlig i nordvendte fjellsider i høyden kan de ta lenger tid til stabilisering.
Der det har kommet mest snø de siste dagene kan kraftig vind legge opp mye snø i leheng og skred kan bli store. Hard og glatt snøoverflate kan noen steder gi godt glideplan for eventuelle skred.

Dersom sola skulle titte fram kan det gi fare for løssnøskred i den nye snøen.
