Avalanche warning for region Vest-Finnmark Wednesday 08.04.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
The danger increases when the wind picks up. Avoid areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 7. April 2020

Mountain weather

Tuesday 7. April 2020

3-6 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from south, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -7 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 8. April 2020

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from west, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during renoon. -6 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Kraftig vind og snøbyger i løpet av natten vil gjøre at det dannes ny ustabil fokksnø i høyden.

Der nedbøren kommer som regn vil det kunne løses ut våte løssnøskred.
