Avalanche warning for region Vest-Telemark Friday 05.05.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Sun and high temperatures gives higher risk of wet loose-snow and slab avalanches in steep sun-exposed terrain. Be aware of cornice falls.
  • The danger is greatest from Friday afternoon

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 4. May 2023

Mountain weather

Thursday 4. May 2023

Little to no precipitation. Breeze from southeast. -5 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 5. May 2023

No precipitation. Fresh breeze from southeast. -9 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
