Avalanche warning for region Voss Saturday 14.05.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful on steep slopes with soft and wet snow, a skier can trigger avalanches here. Be also careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow, especially close to terrain traps. Keep distance to cornices and areas with glide-cracks.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between crust and overlying snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 13. May 2022

Mountain weather

Friday 13. May 2022

30 mm precipitation, up to 45 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1300 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from southwest. -1 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 14. May 2022

6-10 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l Saturday night. Fresh breeze from southwest. -2 °C to 3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
