Avalanche warning for region Finnmarkskysten Sunday 12.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind slabs. Skier triggering of dangerous avalanches is possible.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 11. February 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 11. February 2023

8 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Moderate gale from west. -9 °C to -6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 12. February 2023

5 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Moderate gale from south, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -9 °C to -5 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
