Be careful in areas with wind-deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Be aware of changing wind directions and exposed areas during the day.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Monday 8. January 2018

Søndagens nedbør og vind har gitt fokksnøflak i leheng. Rygger og vindutsatte steder ventes å være isete og harde. Nysnøen ligger på eldre fokksnø som har hatt god tid på å stabilisere seg. Siste mildvær av betydning var 23.12 og snø under dette markerte skarelaget er stabil. Det er nå noe mer snø enn normalt i fjellet og snøgrensa går mange steder ved havnivå.

Det er observert små løssnøskred søndag morgen i forbindelse med temperaturstigning rundt Sørfjorden.

Det rapporteres om kraftig snøfall til havnivå søndag ettermiddag.

No precipitation. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southeast during the afternoon. -13 °C to 0 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Clear skies.

Avalanche risk assessment

Rolig vær og gunstige temperaturer gir snødekket tid til stabilisering. Det kreves etter hvert større tilleggsbelastning for å påvirke ustabil fokksnø og eventuelle skred ventes ikke å bli større enn strl 2. Vær likevel oppmerksom på at det var mer vind mandag enn varslet og at det noen steder ligger ferskere fokksnø. Mot kvelden kan økende vind fra SØ gi nye fokksnøansamlinger i heng mot NV.
Faregraden vurders til 2-moderat.
