Avalanche warning for region Heiane Sunday 23.02.2020

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Generally unstable conditions. Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, and steep terrain where the snow pack is wet.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 22. February 2020

Mountain weather

Saturday 22. February 2020

35 mm precipitation, up to 75 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from southwest. -5 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 23. February 2020

25 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from west, changing to fresh breeze from the west during renoon. -5 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
