Avalanche warning for region Heiane Saturday 18.02.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Strong wind will give windslabs lee areas.
  • The danger is greatest until Saturday before noon

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 17. February 2023

Mountain weather

Friday 17. February 2023

50 mm precipitation, up to 60 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Strong breeze from south, changing to strong gale from the west during the afternoon. -4 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 18. February 2023

2-6 mm precipitation. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l Saturday night. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -10 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Snøen vil bli meir stabil utover ettermiddagen.
