Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Friday 11.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Some naturally released avalanches are possible. Recently loaded slopes in the alpine could easily be triggered by a single skier.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 10. March 2022

Mountain weather

Thursday 10. March 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -8 °C to -1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Friday 11. March 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l Friday night. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the south. -5 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Mildværet fortsetter. Våte skred ventes, men skredaktiviteten er trolig avtagende.
Over snøgrensen vil det være pålagring av fokksnø i leområder. Her kan det være lett å løse ut skred.
