Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Sunday 20.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
The situation is 2-sided. Wet avalances can be triggered on steep terrain where the snowpack is wet. Large wind slabs formed on Saturday can easily be triggered, but are expected to gain strength quickly.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 19. March 2022

Over 1200-1400 moh kommer nedbøren som snø.

Mountain weather

Saturday 19. March 2022

25 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1300 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 20. March 2022

No precipitation. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -4 °C to 2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
