Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Sunday 10.04.2022

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Large naturally released avalanches are likely. Avoid all avalanches terrain. New snow will overload the persistent weak layers and cause widespread avalanches activity. Wet loose avalanches are like at lower elevations as the rain will weaken the snowpack.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Under tregrensen og i vindskjermede områder består snøoverflaten i hovedsak av løssnø. I leområder på fjellet ligger det vindtransportert snø av varierende fasthet. Vindutsatte områder på fjellet er det blåst ned på gammel skare.

Ytre strøk mindre ustabile forhold.

Det er observert kantkornlag innad i fokksnøen høyt i snødekket og ned mot den gamle skaren.

Ved Blåfjellet onsdag ble det observert godt utviklet kantkornlag i snødekket. Ved Lukttind og Nordtind (Litjtind) tirsdag ble det meldt om drønn og skytende sprekker på ca. 500 moh og enda mer drønn og sprekker videre oppover i fjellet. Om man opplever faretegn vil variere innad i regionen.

2-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 100 m a.s.l during the evening. Calm/light breeze from east, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -11 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 10. April 2022

18 mm precipitation, up to 35 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l. Fresh breeze from west, changing to breeze from the east during the evening. -7 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Skredfaren øker i områdene som får mest nedbør. Her ventes det store naturlig utløste skred mange steder.

Snødekket er i utgangspunktet ustabilt på grunn av svake lag av kantkorn. Disse ventes å kollapse når som det komme store mengder nysnø oppå. Denne problemstillingen er mer utbredt i indre strøk.

I lavlandet kan det gå mindre våte skred der nedbøren kommer som regn på snødekket.
