Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Tuesday 11.04.2023

Strong wind and some precipitation can form wind slabs on isolated features in the alpine.

Persistent weak layers are still present in the snowpack in the alpine. But these layers are dormant until the next big warming cycle.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Snødekket i lavlandet er fuktig/vått som følge av milde temperaturer og regn.
Over 500-600 moh er det trolig kommet noe nysnø.

Det gamle snødekket er påvirket av sol og høye temperaturer mange steder. I skyggesidene bære snødekket preg av vind fra ulike retninger.

Dypt i snødekket finnes det svake lag av kantkorn rundt et skarelag. Dette er godt beskyttet av overliggende snødekke og regnes som svært vanskelig å påvirke.

Det meldes om godt skiføre, men at timing er viktig når solen påvirker snøoverflaten.

Avalanche risk assessment

Etter flere vårlige dager blir det nå mer skyet i regionen. Snødekket vil fryse på mange steder og bli stabilt. Litt regn i lavlandet ventes ikke å påvirke snødekket i særlig grad.

Over skoggrensen kan det komme litt nysnø. Kraftig vind kan samle snøen i leheng og danne små ustabile fokksnøflak.
