Avalanche warning for region Helgeland Saturday 30.03.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wind slabs that have formed on Thursday and Friday can be triggered. Primarily by large additional loads, but be aware of localised differences.
Small, wet loose avalanches are possible as the temperatures rise.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 29. March 2024

Mountain weather

Friday 29. March 2024

4 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l Friday night. Moderate gale from southeast. -9 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 30. March 2024

2-5 mm precipitation. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Strong breeze from southeast, changing to breeze from the southeast during renoon. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
