Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Avoid lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Avoid areas with gliding cracks.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Glide avalanches

on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Plussgrader til fjelltopphøyde har gitt skarelag og virket stabiliserende på det gamle snødekket.
Det er store snømengder i høyfjellet og skavler er mange steder store.
Det har kommet litt ny snø de siste dagene som med vind har gitt ferske flakdannelser.

Det er observert sigesprekker i snødekket flere steder.

20 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Strong breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -8 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 13. April 2020

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from northwest, changing to fresh breeze from the northwest during the evening. -10 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Avalanche risk assessment

Kraftig vind og stedvis en del nedbør som snø vil på ny danne ferske, ustabile fokksnøflak i leområder. Det ventes mest nedbør i indre del av regionen og heng mot øst er mest utsatt.
Det er synkende skredfaretendens i fokksnøen fra søndag. Ved sigesprekker er det forhold for glideskred.
