Avalanche warning for region Indre Fjordane Sunday 28.02.2021

Demanding conditions, avoid areas with fresh wind deposited snow. It is also possible to trigger a persistant weak layer in the old snow in bowls and gullies, in all alpine expositions.

Mildværet påvirker nå snødekket høyt opp i fjellet. Spesielt i kystnære strøk har det smeltet mye i fjellet, og under 400 moh er det mange steder snøfritt. Over ca. 1100 moh finnes tørrsnø og fokksnøflak med ulik hardhet.

Kuldeperioden som varte fram til midten av februar førte til vedvarende svake lag av kantkornet snø i snøen. I lavere strøk har disse blitt stabilisert av det påfølgende mildværet. I høyfjellet, særlig der snødekket er tykt, er kantkornlagene fremdeles til stede og kan være virksomme.

Lørdag morgen var temperaturen på Trolledalsegga (1020 moh) ved Lote -1 °C. Det blåste 18 m/s fra sør. I regionen hadde det kommet inntil 7 mm nedbør siste døgn. Dette kom som regn i lavlandet.

Avalanche risk assessment

Snø og vind høyt til fjells fredag og lørdag, vil ha dannet flak som kan løses ut av skiløper. På grunn av gunstige temperaturer, er disse nå vanskeligere å påvirke. Skredfaren vil være høyest i indre og høyreliggende strøk. Mest utsatt er formasjoner i le for sørvestlig vind.

Høyt til fjells der svake kantkornlag er intakte, kan skred i nysnøflak spre seg til dypere lag og gi større skred i få heng.
