Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Thursday 09.01.2020
Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger
Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Especially where the wind deposited slabs are thin or soft, a slab avalanche is easier to trigger here.
Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.
Snow cover (in Norwegian)
Wednesday 8. January 2020
Mountain weather
Wednesday 8. January 2020
15 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Moderate gale from southwest. -3 °C to 4 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.
Thursday 9. January 2020
5 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Gale from west, changing to strong breeze from the west during the evening. -4 °C to 2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.
Advice
The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.
Avalanche risk assessment
We provide daily avalanche forecast in the period between 1st of December until 31st of May. Please remember that the forecast is intended as an aid and not the absolute truth.
