Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Friday 01.04.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid areas with recent storm slabs. The wind is picking up and turns. Snow on the ground will be eroded and deposited in wind sheltered slopes.

Avalanche problems

New snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Thursday 31. March 2022

Snødekket er vindpakket myk i vindutsatte områder under tregrensa. Over tregrensa er snøen vindpåvirket i SV/S/SØ. Det er også store områder med avblåst is/glass-skare, spesielt på flater og i vindutsatte fjellsider NV/N/NØ.

Torsdag er det observert mange små løssnøskred i bratte solvendte sider.

Mountain weather

Thursday 31. March 2022

3-6 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from northeast, changing to breeze from the north during the afternoon. -11 °C to -1 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Friday 1. April 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as snow. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to strong breeze from the southwest during the afternoon. -10 °C to -2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
