Avalanche warning for region Lofoten og Vesterålen Wednesday 19.04.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Wet snow through the night, high temperature and rain elevates the danger of wet avalanches that can release spontaneously. Keep distance to cornices and glide-cracks.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Glide avalanches

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Wet snow/melting near the ground

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tuesday 18. April 2023

Mountain weather

Tuesday 18. April 2023

3-7 mm precipitation. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southwest. 0 °C to 6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Wednesday 19. April 2023

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Precipitation as rain. Fresh breeze from southwest. 1 °C to 6 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
