Avalanche warning for region Lyngen Sunday 03.01.2021

Danger level 1 - Low avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in areas with fresh wind deposited snow. Keep in mind that even small avalanches can have consequences if you fall into rocky terrain. A persistent weak layer of facets is present, but not causing any problems at the moment.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Poor bonding between crust and overlying snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 2. January 2021

Mountain weather

Saturday 2. January 2021

Little to no precipitation. Calm/light breeze from southeast. -19 °C to -6 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 3. January 2021

1-3 mm precipitation. Fresh breeze from southwest. -8 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
