Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Strong wind will give wind slabs in lee areas. A skier or a snow mobile may trigger avalanches in the fresh wind slabs. Persistent weak layers deeper in the snow is in general hard to trigger.

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4). Remote triggering is possible.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Tidligere denne uka kom det 10-30cm nysnø. Lite vind de siste dagene gjør at man kan finne opp mot 10cm løssnø også i høyden. Snøen la seg over et vindpåvirket snødekke der rygger og utsatte formasjoner var avblåste ned på hard snø, mens i leformasjoner mot øst har det lagt seg over løs snø. Forrige helg fuktet mildværet snødekket opp til 400-600 moh.

Dypere i snødekket finnes det vedvarende svake lag. Hovedsakelig virker det vanskelig å påvirke disse da de ligger dypt i snødekket, ofte under skarelag. I lavlandet har regnet stabilisert noe av dette. Fremover er det lurt å følge med på kantkorndannelse rundt mildværsskaren.
