Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Sunday 20.03.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Generally unstable conditions. Wet avalanches are expected. In the mountains where precipitation falls as snow, avoid new and fresh wind slabs.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (slab avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Water pooling in/above snow layers

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 19. March 2022

Noen våte løssnøskred observert over tregrensa ved Sorbmegaisa lørdag.

Lett snøfokk observert i høyden lørdag formiddag, og gjennomvåt snø under tregrensa.

Mountain weather

Saturday 19. March 2022

20 mm precipitation, up to 40 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during renoon. Gale from southwest, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -5 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 20. March 2022

8 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from west, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during renoon. -4 °C to 1 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
