Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Monday 02.01.2023

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Complex conditions with several avalanche problems. Be careful in areas with wind deposited snow, persistent weak layers are present in many areas.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow beneath a crust

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 1. January 2023

Mountain weather

Sunday 1. January 2023

10 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the west during the afternoon. -10 °C to -4 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 2. January 2023

5-8 mm precipitation. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l during renoon. Strong breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the northwest during the afternoon. -12 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
