Avalanche warning for region Nord-Troms Monday 29.01.2024

Danger level 4 - High avalanche danger

Very dangerous avalanche conditions. Travel in avalanche terrain not recommended. We expect intense wet slab activity around and below treeline. Naturally released wind slabs are likely. Some places the wind slabs are resting on persistent weak layers of faceted snow, here remote triggering is possible.

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Poor bonding between layers in wind deposited snow

Fredag fikk sterk vind fra sørøst herjet godt med snødekket. Noen steder er det avblåst ned til skaren. Lørdag kom det igjen inn mer snø og regn. Kortvarig mildere temperaturer på lørdag har fuktet snødekke opp til ca 200moh. Det har ellers kommet ca 10-20cm nysnø i regionen.

Høyt i snødekke finnes et kantkornlag i forbindelse med mildværsskaren som dannet seg 8.1 opp til omtrent 900 moh. Kantkornlaget ble observert både over og under skaren.

8 mm precipitation, up to 20 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 100 m a.s.l Sunday night. Moderate gale from southeast. -8 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 29. January 2024

12-16 mm precipitation. Rain up to 1000 m a.s.l Monday night. Strong gale from southwest. -8 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Det er ventet svært krevende snøforhold.

Natt til mandag vil mildvær nå høyt til fjells og det er ventet at det vil gå naturlig utløste skred. Disse kan bli store.

Utover dagen vil temperaturen synke og det vil komme påfyll av snøbyger og svært kraftig vind. Vinden er kraftig nok til å flytte snø som allerede ikke har blitt flyttet på de siste dagene. Fokksnøflakene legger seg på vedvarende svakt lag av kantorn eller overflaterim. Flak kan løsne av seg selv. Fjernutløsning kan være mulig.
