Snow Cover
• Storm slab (soft slab) • Wind-affected snowpack. East aspects look like they've been blown off at least partially in longyeardalen and endalen. West aspects have accumulated some wind deposits up to 30 cm. These are now 1F+ hardness at the top and gradually decreasing in density to fist at the bottom of the slab where the preserved precip particles are starting to facet. Poor ski conditions here -- punchy, stiff, cold slabs.
Avalanche Problems
• Dry slab avalanche • Buried weak layer of new snow • The weak layer collapses easily and clean (easy propagation). • Easy to trigger • 1 - Small • N, S, SW, W, NW • Wind slabs here were still shearing cleanly in hand profiles within the preserved precip particles, but were not reactive to skier's weight and didn't feel terribly energetic. So probably still lett å løse ut trending towards vanskelig tomorrow. Here there was a very firm old snow surface so i wasn't very worried about deeper instabilities.
