Avalanche Danger Assessment
• As noted yesterday (from different aspect/ side of the valley) the snow cover in Longyeardalen is still sporadic and not very deep. Wind slabs have formed but are not continuous over large areas. The weak layers (crusts and faceted layers within the snowpack) which were found on Varden N facing aspect were not found on Sukkertoppen W facing aspect. There was a thick faceted layer close to the ground, but the crystals were not developed as they were on Varden. • The forecast should stay calm and cold with little precip for the next week, good to monitor development of facets. • 2 Moderate • Forecast too high • Forecast should 2. Not enough snow in the terrain.
