Danger Sign
• Whumpf sound • Two loud whumpf sounds in succession at the base of the 'normal' direct slope of Trollsteinen. Walking on skis. Quick hand pit identified sugar snow at base, followed by a hard layer (approx. several cm thick), and loose fresh snow from the last few days of recent snowfall. Likely the collapse of the hard layer with no solid base beneath it causing the whumpf sounds. Probably persists in a wider area but cannot confirm this.
