Avalanche Activity
• 21. Jan. During the day (+01:00) • No avalanche activity
Snow Cover
• No snowdrift • 0 cm • Wind slab (hard slab) • Dry • Hard on all aspects
Avalanche Problems
• Dry slab avalanche • Buried weak layer of faceted snow beneath a crust • Difficult to trigger • Unlikely • Few steep slopes N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW above 300 masl • Facets/kantkorn is growing under (and over!) the widespread crust. Things are well-locked in at the moment. Isolated areas see surface hoar (overflaterim) developmen). Old windslab is present possibly in isolated areas, but it is several days old by now and I doubt it remains a problem.
Avalanche Danger Assessment
• 1 Low • Forecast correct
Notes
• Skied (skidded, that is) around Litletind and Narvikfjellet with an AST1+ avalanche course group. The snow surface is hard on all aspects. Somewhat surprising, south aspects on Fagernesfjellet (fingers) had best condition for skiing. We did not ski anything north-facing on Fagernesfjellet due to fall hazard. Currently fall/sliding hazard outweighs avalanche hazard. We stayed away from slopes steeper than 30 degrees due to consequences when falling.
