Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

The danger is increasing due to rising temperatures and rain. Wet, naturally released avalanches are expected. In the alpine large dry wind slabs could be triggered.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Mandag til onsdag var det snøbyger til havnivå. Mandag ettermiddag/kveld var det kortvarig kraftig vind og stor snøtransport. Det har vært store forskjeller i nysnømengde og vindstyrke innad i regionen. Søndag var det er kortvarig mildvær til ca 700 moh.

I nordvendt terreng i indre deler av regionen over 1000 moh kan det fortsatt finnes svake lag i det gamle snødekket, men de vurderes ikke til å være et aktivt skredproblem.

Mandag ble det observert noen våte løssnøskred, samt enkelte naturlig utløste flakskred.

4-8 mm precipitation. Precipitation as snow. Breeze from west, changing to breeze from the southeast during the evening. -9 °C to -5 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Mountain weather, 05.05.2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the southwest during renoon. -7 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.
