Avalanche warning for region Ofoten Saturday 06.05.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Warmer weather could weaken the snowpack, and avalanches could be easy to trigger. There is still some uncertainty regarding the bonding between new and old snow in the alpine. Avoid steep slopes with unstable wind slabs is encounter.

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Det har vært bygevær, så det kan være store lokale forskjeller i både snømengde og vindpåvirkning av snøoverflaten.
På 800 moh er det kommet 30-50cm siden natt til søndag.

Det gamle snødekket smelteomvandlet, til minimum 1000 moh.

Det er observert middels store, våte løssnøskred på grunn av sol de siste dagene.

Det er mange steder store skavler.

1-4 mm precipitation. Rain up to 200 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from west. -8 °C to -3 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 6. May 2023

No precipitation. Calm/light breeze from southwest. -8 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Det er fortsatt usikkerhet rundt bindingen mellom ny og gammel snø i høyden. Unngå bratte leheng dersom det oppdages oppsprekking i snøoverflaten.
