Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Saturday 17.02.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Be careful in lee areas with wind deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Wind deposited snow could rest on a weak layer of buried facets.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Friday 16. February 2024

Mountain weather

Friday 16. February 2024

6 mm precipitation, up to 12 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 700 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from south, changing to strong breeze from the northwest during the evening. -7 °C to -2 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Saturday 17. February 2024

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 300 m a.s.l Saturday night. Fresh breeze from northwest, changing to breeze from the southeast during the evening. -16 °C to -5 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Vær oppmerksom i bratte sørhellinger dersom sola tar lørdag.
