Avalanche warning for region Romsdal Sunday 21.04.2024

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
Avoid areas with fresh wind deposited snow. There could be buried surface hoar under the the wind slabs.

Avalanche problems

Persistent weak layer (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2). Remote triggering is possible.

Buried weak layer of faceted snow near surface

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 20. April 2024

Mountain weather

Saturday 20. April 2024

14 mm precipitation, up to 25 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 400 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Breeze from north. -8 °C to -3 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Sunday 21. April 2024

No precipitation. Calm/light breeze from northeast. -12 °C to -1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Vær derfor varsom i slike terrengformer.
