Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Sunday 09.04.2023

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
If the sun pops out, wet, naturally released avalanches are likely. The wind slabs from Friday and Saturday are hard to trigger.
Old persistent weak layers are still lingering but are very hard to trigger. This problem is dormant until the next significant warming period.

Avalanche problems

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

Avalanches may release spontaneously on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Loose snow

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Saturday 8. April 2023

Mountain weather

Saturday 8. April 2023

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during renoon. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to breeze from the south during renoon. -5 °C to 2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Sunday 9. April 2023

Little to no precipitation. Calm/light breeze from southwest. -5 °C to 2 °C at 700 m a.s.l. Partly cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
