Avalanche warning for region Sør-Troms Tuesday 09.05.2023

The snowpack is still wet and unstable. Skiers can trigger wet avalanches in steep terrain. Unstable wind slabs at higher elevations, where the snow surface is dry.

You can easily trigger avalanches on a few steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Natt til mandag kom det 5-15 mm nedbør i regionen, som regn opp til ca. 800moh. Mest nedbør i ytre strøk av regionen.
Fra Senja blir det rapportert om et smelteomvandlet snødekke på 700 moh på søndag. Snøgrensa er generelt lav og det er skiføre fra 100 moh.

Avalanche risk assessment

Nedbøren opphører, men det er fremdeles varslet varmt vær. Faren for naturlig utløste skred avtar. Der snødekket inneholder mye vann må det fremdeles betraktes som ustabilt. Skiløpere vil kunne løse ut middels store våte skred i bratt terreng.
Høyere til fjells, der snøoverflaten er tørrere vil skiløpere kunne påvirke ustabil fokksnø i enkelte leområder.
