Avalanche warning for region Sunnmøre Thursday 17.03.2022

Danger level 2 - Moderate avalanche danger

Published:
At higher altitudes avoid areas with wind-deposited snow, typically behind ridges, ribs and in gullies. Keep distance to areas with gliding cracks.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury or even kill you (size 2).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Wet snow (loose snow avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches are relatively harmless to people, but can knock you off balance. Can be dangerous close to terrain traps. (size 1)

Loose snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Wednesday 16. March 2022

Mountain weather

Wednesday 16. March 2022

6 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 1100 m a.s.l during the afternoon. Fresh breeze from south. -6 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Thursday 17. March 2022

5 mm precipitation, up to 15 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 900 m a.s.l Thursday night. Fresh breeze from southeast, changing to moderate gale from the southeast during renoon. -6 °C to 1 °C at 1400 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment

Unngå områder under glidesprekkar.
