Avalanches may release spontaneously on many steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a large truck or destroy several houses (size 4).

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Nedbør og vind påvirker snøoverflaten. Under mildværsgrensa vil det være et vått snødekke. I fjellet vil kraftig vind føre til en hard vindpåvirket snøoverflate utsatte steder og store ansamlinger av fersk fokksnø i leheng.

Over ca 300 moh er det vedvarende svake lag med kantkorn under skarelag som tidligere har vært svært lett å påvirke som skiløper.
