Avalanche warning for region Svartisen Monday 28.02.2022

Danger level 3 - Considerable avalanche danger

Published:
Large, dry avalanches are likely to trigger in the alpine. Avoid all avalanches terrain where this problem is likely to be encountered. The wet snowpack at lower elevations is expected to stabilize quickly.

Avalanche problems

Wind drifted snow (slab avalanches)

You can easily trigger avalanches on some steep slopes. Avalanches can get large enough to bury a car or destroy a small house (size 3).

Buried weak layer of new snow

Below you can see a description of the current snow cover information and current weather forecast in the mountains. If your observations deviate greatly from what is described here, the warning will not necessarily apply either. Always make your own judgments or stay away from avalanche terrain.

Snow cover (in Norwegian)

Sunday 27. February 2022

Mountain weather

Sunday 27. February 2022

10 mm precipitation, up to 30 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 800 m a.s.l Sunday night. Gale from southwest. -4 °C to 0 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Monday 28. February 2022

4 mm precipitation, up to 10 mm in the most exposed areas. Rain up to 600 m a.s.l during the evening. Fresh breeze from southwest, changing to fresh breeze from the south during renoon. -6 °C to -2 °C at 1100 m a.s.l. Cloudy.

Advice

The bulletin is a planning tool and may differ from the actual situation. Always make your own evaluation. To be 100 % avalanche safe, avoid all avalanche terrain.

Avalanche risk assessment
